Visitors to Edgbaston Village may have noticed some changes on Greenfield Crescent recently. As part of Calthorpe Estate’s long term plan, the street where Lux is located in undergoing a process of pedestrianisation.

This has been in the pipeline for some time, and will allow the restaurants and bars on the road to offer on-street dining to the customers. The long term vision for Greenfield Crescent is to have tables, chairs, stallholders and even entertainment on the street itself. It will be welcoming, family friendly and European in style.

Projects like this have worked all over the UK, and can become safe havens of trade, dining and activity. However, roads cannot become pedestrianised overnight. Due to the road being part of The Council’s Highways, the process is staggered in stages.

At present, temporary large planters have been erected on towards either end of the street, allowing emergency vehicles access. ‘Road Closed’ signs have also been displayed in an attempt to dissuade drivers from driving too far, and instead keeping the street open to pedestrians only.

PLEASE NOTE – ALL BUSINESSES ARE OPEN AS USUAL

However, we are aware that the signage may cause some confusion to drivers who are unaware of the area, and its parking facilities.

Please be aware that parking is available for all shops, available at the following locations:

Either end of Greenfield Crescent: There are a few free 2hr short stay car park spaces on both ends of the street itself.

Entering from Harborne Road: Ignore the first ‘road closed’ sign, and turn either right into Natwest Pay & Display car park, or left into the larger car park behind Chapter and Blue Piano.

Coming from Calthorpe Road: Instead of turning down Greenfield Crescent, take the next right (going around the church) and head onto Highfield Road. There are 2 entrances to a large Pay & Display car park on the right, situated directly behind Lux gallery.
