The painting ‘In the Name of the Farmer, His Son and the Holy Goat’ was inspired by one of Robbie Jeffcott’s childhood memories. Robbie always misheard these words whilst at church, and later on, this gave him a visual concept to work from.

Through imagery and symbolism Robbie aimed to highlight alternative theories of religious text, and how certain parables could potentially be interpreted through the eyes of a psychedelic or alternative spiritual experience.

The artwork features a wide range of psychedelic imagery:

Moses and the Burning Bush: Theology professor, Dan Merkur, theorized that chemicals comparable to LSD were in the Manna (the edible substance God gave the Israelites during their travels in the desert)
The ‘farmer’ also draws inspiration from ‘American Gothic’ a well known painting from 1930 by Grant Wood
The holy shit
Holy grail (Carling Cup)
The ‘Stoned Ape’ theory (hypothesised by Terence McKenna)
Sacred geometry / the flower of life
The ‘biblically accurate angel’
0’s & 1’s, a reference to Simulation Theory, popularized by philosopher Nick Bostrom
Aliens
Psychedelic Toads (based on the Hypnotoad from Futurama)
Magic mushrooms
The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing (Matthew 7:15)
Tree / crucifix

The janky, childlike style honours Robbie’s original memories of being raised a Christian, through his childhood’s visual imagination.
